Using Fonts: Less is More

Less is More > Facts About Fonts

Fonts are an essential part of your learning environment. Using them optimally will ensure that learners can read and understand your content.

Less is More—Example

It is best to use no more than 2 good fonts on any design piece. Choose fonts with different features that have variety within the font.

I am using a font equivalent to 16 point type with 22 point leading. Leading is the space between lines. I chose sans serif for better readability on screen.

With CSS we have more freedom to choose fonts. However, we are still limited by what fonts people have on their computers. The most common browser fonts are Franklin Gothic Medium, Arial, Palatino, Courier, Helvetica, Verdana, Lucida Console, Tahoma, Georgia and Trebuchet.

Monospaced fonts have a fixed width for each letter and are easy to align but not the best for reading. They are used in coding. On a computer monitor, serif type and Itallics become slightly distorted when rendered by pixels.
